Jessica Jacobs
Currently at LDA and former clerk for a judge in Second District
Jessica was a third-year law student at the University of Utah. When she wasn't studying, she worked as a law clerk at Yengich, Rich & Xaiz. She tarried hard behind the scenes to make sure that each of our clients got superb representation in court. A former collegiate athlete at University of South Carolina, her other interests include sports of all varieties, soccer in particular, and causing trouble on weekends.
Vanessa Ramos - Smith
Currently with Utah Federal Defenders
Vanessa worked as a secretary, law clerk, and associate attorney at the firm from March 1990 to October 2003. She left us, much to our chagrin, in 2003 to take a job as a Federal Public Defender. She still works at the Federal Public Defender’s Office offering diligent and relentless representation to indigent defendants in federal court every day.

Currently with Ishola & Associates Hakeem was an associate attorney at out office prior to 1998. He, too, was our law clerk before he began his successful practice. Although his practice is primarily concerned with immigration issues, he is still an accomplished criminal defense attorney. There are few attorneys in the U.S.A. as accomplished in these combined fields of law as is Hakeem.

Sharla was a law clerk in the office from September 2001 to June 2003. After getting her bar card, Sharla further honed her formidable legal reasoning skills as a clerk at the Utah Court of Appeals. She is currently a trial attorney at the Legal Defenders Association.

Lori also worked as a clerk from February 1999 to July 2002; she too went on to work at the Court of Appeals and is currently practicing law at the Legal Defenders Association in the appellate division.
Chelsea Koch
Currently with Utah Federal Defenders
Chelsea clerked at the firm from May 1998 to October 2000. Although she’s Earl’s daughter, Chelsea held her own at our firm and currently provides excellent legal services as a Federal Public Defender. Like her Dad, she is an aggressive advocate and like Vanessa, a star at the Federal Defender’s Office.
